# Stake $WLFI

Staking lets holders of unlocked $WLFI open a staking position with a 180-day lock, keep voting on Snapshot, and claim potential rewards in USD1 once the position’s 180-day lock has expired and the applicable voting requirements are met. This page explains what staking is, who can take part, how rewards and the voting requirement work, and what each part of the staking dashboard means.

## Overview

$WLFI staking is the on-chain part of the **WLFI Governance Participation Incentive Program** (the "Program"), approved by $WLFI holders through governance. The proposal describes the Program as "a promotional program intended to encourage use of the WLF platform and active participation in its governance process, similar to a loyalty or usage incentive program." The proposal calls the rewards it pays **promotional allocations**; these pages call them rewards, as the staking dashboard does.

Staking is for holders of unlocked $WLFI on Ethereum Mainnet. A staker opens a staking position with a 180-day lock, keeps voting on governance proposals while staked, and may claim rewards once the 180-day minimum has passed, then restake or unstake.

Staking does not change what $WLFI is. In the words of the proposal, "WLFI remains solely a governance utility token used for proposing and voting on governance matters related to the WLF platform." Participation "does not confer ownership or any claim relating to the WLF platform or its activities or any economic rights." Staking is non-custodial: "Neither the protocol nor World Liberty Financial would have access to, custody of, or discretionary control over a participant's $WLFI."

### Key points

* **180-day lock**: each staking position has a 180-day lock, with no early exit. Tokens added before maturity share the original unlock date, are locked only for the remaining period, and earn rewards from the date they are added.
* **Vote to claim**: rewards accrue for every staker, and votes decide when you can claim them. To claim, you need one direct vote on Snapshot for every full 90 days staked, counted on the day you claim (2 at 180 days, 3 at 270, 4 at 360).
* **Claim once your votes are in**: once the 180-day minimum has passed and you have the votes you need, you can claim, with no deadline. When you claim, you choose in the same step: **Claim and restake** sends your USD1 to your wallet and locks your $WLFI for another 180-day minimum; **Claim and unstake** sends your USD1 and your $WLFI to your wallet.
* **Forfeiture**: after the 180-day minimum, if you are short of votes you can unstake without claiming. Your unclaimed rewards are forfeited and returned to the rewards pool for other stakers.
* **Delegated votes do not count**: only votes cast directly by the staking wallet count toward the requirement.
* **Voting power stays the same**: staked, wallet and locked $WLFI each count one for one, so staking does not change your voting power.
* **Non-custodial**: your $WLFI moves to the staking contract, and it comes back only when your wallet unstakes it.
* **Potential rewards in USD1**: rewards are paid in USD1 from one shared rewards pool, at a variable rate, while the program runs. Nothing is guaranteed. The pool address will be published.

## Am I eligible?

You can stake if you have:

1. A wallet holding unlocked $WLFI on Ethereum Mainnet
2. ETH in the same wallet for gas fees
3. Signed the staking agreement in the staking dialog
4. Not been restricted by compliance screening

Locked tokens (early-supporter $WLFI that has not unlocked yet) count toward your voting power and can be used to vote, but they cannot be staked until they are unlocked and claimed to your wallet, so they do not earn rewards while still locked. See [Unlock $WLFI](/wlfi-token/unlock-wlfi.md).

If your wallet is connected to another network, the widget shows **"You are on the wrong network"** with a **Switch network** button; the pool figures above the tabs still show. If the team pauses staking, the widget shows **"Staking paused"**: new stakes, additions and restakes are unavailable until it resumes, while claiming and unstaking still work.

## How staking works

### The staking term

When you stake, your $WLFI is locked for a minimum of 180 days, with no early exit. During the 180-day minimum it cannot be unstaked, sold or transferred. Once the 180-day minimum has passed, the position matures: it stays open and can continue accruing rewards while the program remains active, until you claim or unstake. Each wallet has one staking position. You can add $WLFI to it before it matures, and adding does not restart the 180-day minimum. Added tokens share the original unlock date and are locked only for the remaining period. Once it has matured, it cannot be added to; claim your rewards and restake to start a new term. The minimum is 0.01 $WLFI for a new stake and for each addition. Unstaking always returns the whole position.

There is no deadline to claim. But the number of votes you need goes up by one at every 90-day mark, including after your position matures, so a position you can claim today can stop being claimable at the next 90-day mark unless you vote again.

### Rewards

Rewards accrue daily in USD1 while your position is open and the program runs, at one variable rate that applies to every staker, whether or not you have voted yet. Votes decide only when you can claim: once your 180-day minimum has passed and you meet the voting requirement. The proposal states that rewards "would not be based on a fixed or guaranteed rate" and would instead be "dynamically calculated" from the total size of the available rewards pool, the total amount of $WLFI participating in governance staking, each participant's proportionate share of the total $WLFI staked, and whether a participant has met the governance participation requirements. "No promotional allocation is provided merely for passive holding or passive staking of $WLFI." The rewards pool may be funded from "ecosystem sources, which may include fees received by WLF from World Liberty Markets", and its address will be published.

### The governance participation requirement

To claim rewards you need one direct vote on Snapshot for every full 90 days staked, counted on the day you claim (2 at 180 days, 3 at 270, 4 at 360). The requirement rises as the position stays open, including after it matures, so voting as you go keeps you ahead. Any proposal in the WLFI Snapshot space counts, as long as you vote directly from your own wallet after your stake starts. Votes cast before you staked do not count. "Delegated votes do not count toward the governance participation requirements of the Program; tokenholders must vote directly to satisfy participation requirements." World Liberty Financial intends to propose at least one governance vote per calendar quarter.

Each claim uses up the votes that got you there. If you restake, a new 180-day minimum starts and your vote count starts again from zero, so to claim again you need one vote for every 90 days of the new period (2 by day 180). If you unstake, your position closes, and if you stake again later you start a new position with a vote count of zero. Adding to your stake does not change your vote count.

### Forfeiture

If you unstake a matured position before the voting requirement is met, the rewards accrued on it are forfeited. Forfeited rewards return to the rewards pool for other stakers and cannot be recovered. The app shows the amount you would forfeit and asks you to acknowledge it before the transaction is sent. To keep your rewards, cast the votes you need and then claim; see [Vote to stay eligible](/wlfi-token/stake-wlfi/vote-to-stay-eligible.md).

The number of votes you need keeps rising even when there are no live proposals to vote on. If you fall so far behind that catching up is unrealistic, for example after a long stretch with no live proposals, **Unstake & forfeit rewards** lets you take your $WLFI back without claiming.

### Voting power and delegation

Your voting power counts the $WLFI in your wallet, your staked $WLFI and any locked tokens (early-supporter $WLFI that has not unlocked yet). Each counts the same, one for one. Staking, adding to your stake, restaking and unstaking only move $WLFI between your wallet and the staking contract, so they do not change your total voting power. Only unlocked $WLFI in your wallet can be staked. One holder can vote with at most 5,000,000,000 $WLFI, which is 5% of total supply, and staked $WLFI and locked tokens count toward that same limit. See the [WLFI governance page](/wlfi-token/wlfi-governance.md). If your holdings exceed that cap, the **Voting power** widget says so under its buttons and shows how much of them does not count. A wallet the team has excluded from voting sees **"This wallet's voting power is excluded."** there instead: its own holdings do not count and cannot be delegated, while power delegated to it still counts. You can delegate your voting power to another wallet. Delegating never moves your $WLFI, and votes you have already cast still count, and your delegate’s votes do not count toward your claim. While your voting power is delegated, you can vote only with power others delegate to you. If your votes are already in, delegating does not stop you from claiming. ## Understanding the staking dashboard

The staking page, titled **Stake $WLFI** with the subtitle **"Stake $WLFI and earn potential rewards in USD1."**, has two tabs. **Staking**, selected on your first visit and remembered afterwards, shows your stake, your USD1 rewards and the votes you need to claim them. **Voting power** shows how much your vote counts, where that voting power comes from, and any delegation to or from your wallet. The pool figures and reward-rate notice above the tabs are the same for every wallet; your position and voting power figures are specific to the connected wallet.

Use **Value in:** to choose how amounts are written: **Crypto** (the default) or **USD**. **Crypto** shows each amount in its own token, $WLFI or USD1. **USD** shows $WLFI amounts at the current $WLFI price and USD1 amounts at $1 each, and it does not change the **Reward rate (variable)** or any voting power figure.

A reward-rate notice appears below the pool figures and above both tabs, including before you connect a wallet:

**Reward rates can change during your lock period**

The displayed reward rate is the current rate, expressed as an annualized figure. It can decrease as more WLFI is staked. Rewards are not guaranteed, and today's rate does not represent what you will earn over your staking period. New stakes are locked for at least 180 days, even if the reward rate falls.

On mobile, the notice shows the info icon above the text and a **Close** button below it. On desktop, use the **X** in the top-right corner. Closing the notice hides it until you reload the page.

Most labels have an info icon. The tables below quote each tooltip and explain what the figure means.

## Important notices

### Gas fees

Approving $WLFI, staking, adding to your stake, claiming, unstaking, and delegating, reassigning or removing a delegation are each an Ethereum transaction that requires ETH for gas fees. Ensure you have sufficient ETH in your wallet before proceeding. Signing the staking agreement and voting on Snapshot are signatures, not transactions, and do not require gas.

### Security

* **Never share your private keys** with anyone
* Only interact with the official $WLFI staking contract
* Verify you're on the official World Liberty Financial website
* Check the contract address your wallet shows against [Contract Addresses](/wlfi-token/contract-addresses.md) before approving it

### Legal considerations

The staking agreement is the [**WLF Governance Participation Incentive Program Agreement**](/legal/staking-agreement.md). It supplements the [Terms of Service](/legal/terms-of-service.md). By signing it, you acknowledge and agree to its terms, including:

* Each staking position has a 180-day lock with no early withdrawal. Tokens added before maturity share the original unlock date and earn rewards only from the date they are added.
* Rewards are promotional allocations paid in USD1. They depend on the amount and duration of your stake, the program parameters and the available budget. They are not guaranteed, and the program may be changed, suspended or ended at any time.
* To claim, you need one vote personally cast from your staking wallet for every full 90 days since the position opened, counted when you claim. Votes cast by a delegate do not count, and restaking resets the count.
* After the lock expires, you may withdraw without claiming, and all unclaimed rewards are forfeited to the rewards pool.
* If the agreement is updated, you must accept the new version before you can stake, claim or unstake.
* Participation is subject to the eligibility requirements in the Terms of Service and to digital asset and smart contract risks.
* Staking gives no ownership interest in World Liberty Financial and no economic rights.

Read the full agreement in the staking dialog before you sign. The dialog shows the date the agreement was last updated.
