# Vote to stay eligible

Potential rewards accrue while the rewards program remains active. To claim them, you need one direct vote on Snapshot for every full 90 days staked, counted on the day you claim (2 at 180 days, 3 at 270, 4 at 360). This guide shows how to check how many votes you need, cast a vote on Snapshot, and confirm that it counted.

## Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

* An open staking position
* Access to the [staking page](https://worldlibertyfinancial.com/staking) and to [Snapshot](https://vote.worldlibertyfinancial.com)

## Step 1: Check the votes card

While your position is short of votes, the **Staking** tab shows a card titled **"You need N more votes to claim your rewards"**, with your own number in place of N (**"1 more vote"** when only one is left). N is how many more votes you need to cast directly from your own wallet before you can claim. During the 180-day minimum it counts toward the 2 votes you will need on day 180; after that, it counts toward the votes you need today, which is one for every full 90 days staked. N goes down by one each time a vote of yours is counted and goes up by one at each new 90-day mark (day 270, 360 and so on).

When your voting power is not delegated, the text under the title depends on where your position is:

* **Before the 180-day minimum**: "Rewards can be claimed once your stake reaches its 180-day minimum and you have voted on N more governance proposals on Snapshot. One vote is needed for every 90 days staked, so voting as you go keeps you ahead. New votes may take a few minutes to appear." Voting early only means you won't be short on day 180. It does not let you claim sooner.
* **After the 180-day minimum**: "Rewards can be claimed once you have voted on N more governance proposals on Snapshot. One vote is needed for every 90 days staked, and in D days you will need one more. New votes may take a few minutes to appear." D is not extra time for the votes you owe now. It is the number of days until the requirement goes up by one more vote.

The **Governance votes** meter below it shows your votes as **"X out of Y"**, for example **"1 out of 2"**. X is the direct votes from your wallet that count toward this claim. Y is the votes you need: 2 during the 180-day minimum (what you will need on day 180), then one for every full 90 days staked. Each segment of the bar is one needed vote. Filled segments are votes you have cast and empty ones are still to do.

Any proposal in the WLFI Snapshot space counts, and each proposal counts once. Only votes cast directly from the wallet that holds the position, after the stake starts, count. Your rewards keep accruing while you vote; votes decide only when you can claim.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If the card reads **"Your voting power is delegated to \[delegate]. Votes you have already cast still count. You can still vote with power others delegate to you; if you have none, remove the delegation to vote again."** and shows **"Remove delegation"** instead of **"Vote on Snapshot"**, your voting power is delegated to that address. Votes you have already cast still count toward your claim, and your delegate’s votes do not count for you. While the delegation is in place, you can vote only with power others delegate to you. Delegating never moves your $WLFI, and it does not stop you claiming once your votes are in. **"Remove delegation"** opens a dialog where you can choose **"Sign & Remove"** to give your voting power back to your own wallet, so you can vote directly again. It is optional. You can remove or reassign the delegation at any time; see [Delegate your voting power](/wlfi-token/stake-wlfi/delegate-voting-power.md).
{% endhint %}

## Step 2: Open Snapshot

Under **Active proposals**, the card lists the proposals in the WLFI Snapshot space that are open for voting right now, soonest closing first, and a vote on any of them counts. Each one shows **"Ends in N days"**, the whole days left until voting closes, or **"Ends today"** on its last day. **"Voted"** appears in front of it when you have already voted on that proposal from your own wallet, and that vote is included in the meter. A vote your delegate cast does not count, so it never shows **"Voted"**.

Click a proposal to open it on Snapshot in a new tab. The **"Vote on Snapshot"** link next to the card title opens the WLFI Snapshot home page in a new tab, where you can pick any open proposal. The link is replaced by **"Remove delegation"** while your voting power is delegated. You can still vote on Snapshot with power others delegate to you. Before your position matures, the staking widget also shows **"Vote on Snapshot"** in place of **"Add to stake"** when your wallet holds less than 0.01 $WLFI.

If no proposal is open for voting, the card shows **"No active proposals right now."** and "New ones are shaped on the governance forum before they reach a vote." This means the votes you still need can't be cast until a new proposal opens. The requirement still rises every 90 days during that time. If the list cannot load, the card shows **"Couldn't load active proposals."**

If you fall too far behind to catch up, you can unstake without claiming once your position reaches its 180-day minimum. While you are short of votes, **"Claim rewards"** is disabled and a red **"Unstake & forfeit rewards"** button shows below it. It opens a dialog showing the rewards you would give up, and you must tick the box and confirm. Your $WLFI goes back to your wallet, and your unclaimed rewards are forfeited and go back to the shared rewards pool for other stakers. This closes your position, so a new stake starts again at zero votes. See [Unstake](/wlfi-token/stake-wlfi/unstake.md).

{% hint style="info" %}
In the $WLFI Governance Participation Incentive Program proposal, World Liberty Financial states that it "would commit to proposing at least one (1) governance vote per calendar quarter."
{% endhint %}

## Step 3: Cast your vote on Snapshot

On Snapshot, connect the same wallet you stake with, open the proposal, choose your option and confirm the vote. Voting on Snapshot is a signature, not a transaction, and does not require gas. See [$WLFI Governance](/wlfi-token/wlfi-governance.md) for how voting works.

## Step 4: Confirm the vote counted

Return to the staking page. A new vote may take a few minutes to appear. When it does, **X** in **"X out of Y"** goes up by one, one more bar segment fills in, and the number in the card title goes down by one. The card disappears as soon as your votes cast reach the number needed (Y). During the 180-day minimum that means you have the 2 votes needed for day 180, but you still can't claim until the 180 days have passed. If you have not claimed by the time the requirement rises above the votes you have cast, the card comes back. For example, with 2 votes it comes back on day 270. Your vote is also listed as **"Voted"** in the **Activity** card on the **Voting power** tab, with the proposal title, your choice (for example **"Voted: FOR"**) and your voting power when the proposal was snapshotted. The entry links to the proposal on Snapshot, because a Snapshot vote is a signature, not an on-chain transaction.

<figure><img src="https://4054725252-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2fWzzsd7mWwKk7oKt4dT%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-936faf4105408354a774e79a6d76e7f9b46512df%2Fstaking-votes-satisfied.png?alt=media" alt="The Staking tab after voting, with the votes card gone"><figcaption><p>Once you have the votes you need, the votes card disappears until the requirement rises above the votes you have cast</p></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="success" %}
Your vote counts toward the governance participation requirement. You need one vote for every full 90 days staked, counted on the day you claim, so keep voting while your position is open. If you wait to claim after the 180-day minimum, the requirement goes up by one every 90 days (3 at day 270, 4 at day 360), and the votes card comes back whenever it rises above the votes you have cast.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.worldlibertyfinancial.com/wlfi-token/stake-wlfi/vote-to-stay-eligible.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `build a script that syncs our docs to a CMS` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
